ANDDAV OS 1.0
ANDDAV OS is a Debian 13-based desktop for 64-bit Intel and AMD PCs, using GNOME.
Included features
- ANDDAV boot artwork, splash screen, wallpapers and login branding.
- An ANDDAV default avatar on a navy circle; users can change their avatar.
- Six editable application folders: Development, Graphics, Internet, Media, Office and System Tools.
- Firefox ESR, Thunderbird, VLC, LibreOffice, GIMP and Inkscape.
- Optional installation of Microsoft VS Code, FileZilla, Audacity and OBS Studio through Recommended Software. Nothing is selected automatically. VS Code downloads from Microsoft; the other three use Flathub.
- A one-time installed-user welcome window with software, updates and an offline getting-started guide; it can be reopened from the menu.
- Installed apps are recognised and excluded from the selection checklist.
- GNOME Software with Flatpak and Flathub support.
- Calamares graphical installer, removed from the installed system.
- Debian non-free firmware support, including the Qualcomm Atheros firmware tested on the Dell XPS 13 9380.
Known limitations
- Newly installed applications may enter their category folder only after logging out and back in. Placement depends on the application's category information. User folder changes are preserved.
- A USB live session without persistence forgets settings and Wi-Fi passwords after shutdown. Its writable space is limited; larger application installations should be tested on an installed system.
- Intermittent early boot stalls occurred in VirtualBox on the Windows test host. Using one virtual CPU resolved the observed stalls in subsequent tests. This does not establish a fix for every host.
- Secure Boot, encrypted installation, hibernation, dual boot and installation on the XPS internal disk have not been validated.
- Hardware compatibility varies. Successful testing on one laptop does not establish support for every Wi-Fi adapter or PC.
Validation scope
The release image is build-20261022T235821Z-ZkCnJ2. The user confirmed fresh BIOS and UEFI VirtualBox installation, login, installed-system release checks and full shutdown/power-on tests. The BIOS test also confirmed welcome dismissal persists, all three welcome actions work, and all four optional applications install and are detected as installed.
The same image passed Dell XPS 13 9380 (P82G002) live USB checks for Wi-Fi, audio, touchpad, brightness, suspend/wake and restart. Earlier firmware-image testing additionally confirmed the camera, microphone and Bluetooth mouse pairing/use; those three were not separately repeated on the final welcome image.
Earlier tests confirmed custom avatars and manual folder choices persist. Automated release checks are configuration checks, not a security certification.
Updates
Use Software to check for updates. The system uses Debian package repositories, the Microsoft VS Code repository and Flathub. Applications and firmware retain their respective licences.
VS Code is not preinstalled or bundled. Its optional installation presents Microsoft's licence and telemetry information. FileZilla and Audacity on Flathub are community-maintained packages.
