# ANDDAV OS 1.0 installation guide

## Before starting

Back up important files. Installation can erase the selected disk. Keep the computer connected to power.

The tested virtual machines used one virtual CPU and 4 GB RAM, with a 30 GB BIOS disk or a 40 GB UEFI disk. These are tested configurations, not a guaranteed minimum. Allow extra storage for optional applications and their runtimes.

Download the ISO and its matching SHA256SUMS file together. On Windows, run:

```powershell
Get-FileHash .\live-image-amd64.hybrid.iso -Algorithm SHA256
```

Compare the entire result with SHA256SUMS. A matching checksum detects a damaged or different download; an unsigned checksum alone does not authenticate its publisher.

## Create and boot the USB

1. Select the ISO in Rufus and carefully identify the USB device. Writing it erases that device.
2. When offered a choice, DD image mode reproduces the tested hybrid image.
3. Wait for writing to finish, safely eject the USB, then connect it to the test computer.
4. Open the computer's boot menu (F12 on the tested Dell) and select the UEFI USB entry.
5. Start the live session. Check Wi-Fi, display, sound, keyboard and touchpad before installing.

Secure Boot has not been validated for this release. A live session without persistence does not retain changes after restarting.

## Install

1. Open Install ANDDAV OS and select your location and keyboard.
2. Carefully review the destination disk. **Erase disk deletes the contents of the selected disk.** Use it only for a disk you intend to replace completely.
3. The tested default uses ext4 and Swap (no Hibernate). In UEFI mode the installer also creates an EFI System Partition mounted at /boot/efi.
4. In BIOS mode, the tested bootloader location is the whole target disk's Master Boot Record, such as /dev/sda.
5. Create your account and password, then review the complete summary before starting installation.
6. When installation finishes, shut down, remove the USB and boot from the installed disk.

Manual partitioning, dual boot, encryption and hibernation need separate validation and are outside this tested installation path.

## After installation

Log in, reconnect to Wi-Fi and check for updates in Software. Open the included applications and restart once to check normal startup. Installed systems should retain saved Wi-Fi credentials.

The welcome window appears once per installed user. Choose optional software, open Updates, read the offline getting-started guide, or select Maybe later. Reopen Welcome to ANDDAV OS through application search at any time.

Recommended Software offers VS Code, FileZilla, Audacity and OBS Studio. Installed apps are labelled and omitted from the checklist; remaining apps start unchecked. Downloads require internet access and free disk space. VS Code comes directly from Microsoft, with links to its terms and privacy information; the other three use Flathub. A progress window shows password and package confirmation prompts.

You can change your avatar and reorganise application folders. New applications may require a logout/login before appearing inside their category folder.

For a configuration check, run:

```bash
sudo anddav-release-check --installed
```

This checks selected installation defaults; it does not certify hardware compatibility or overall security.
